Overview

The Humantay Lake Tour will take us on a full day adventure from Cuzco through stunning Andean landscapes. Early departure will  set the pace as we head out from Cuzco into wild Andean terrain. Winding roads unfold beside quiet villages, icy streams cutting through valleys below. Snow-draped summits rise without warning, their edges sharp against the sky.

After arriving at the trailhead, the walk toward Humantay Lake begins. Through highland meadows and uneven stone routes it goes, opening sudden views perfect for pictures. As we move forward, the guide shares ways to handle thin air so people feel steady on their feet. Eating breakfast helps, then small food breaks later keep strength up along the path.

Down by the water, sunlight dances on waves framed by high peaks. Moving slowly through the space gives room to snap pictures, breathe deep, settle into quiet. Each footfall up the trail pays off once eyes meet that wide-open beauty. Stories about the place come out as we walk - secrets of land and belief passed down through years.

Later on, feet retracing familiar ground, we head down to where the path began. Lunch waits after that stretch under open sky. Instead of rushing, we take our time getting back toward Cuzco . Mountains stand quiet beside the road, watching us go. Around five in the evening, wheels stop where they started. A long day fades - thin air, sharp peaks, earth colored in dust and light.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before your trip.

When does the trip to Humantay Lake work best?

When skies stay clear, that stretch between May and September often works well for Humantay Lake visits. Rain shows up less then, making paths easier underfoot.

How would one characterize the level of difficulty inherent to the ascent towards Humantay Lake?

A trail that climbs without rushing takes around ninety minutes to hit four thousand two hundred meters high. Not too hard, yet not flat either - each step rises past rocky patches under open sky.

Some folks might rather ride than walk the path. Horses available for those people?

Horses stand ready at the trailhead, offered to riders who need help climbing up. Those heading higher can take one along instead of walking every step.

What kind of clothing is recommended for this hike?

Bundled clothing works well when temperatures shift. Footwear needs to handle rough trails without giving out halfway through. Sunscreen or hats help keep the heat at bay during open stretches.

How long does the Humantain Lake trip take when you count the ride plus walking time?

Most days the outing runs close to twelve or thirteen hours. Pickup at your lodging happens early, sometime from four-thirty to five in the morning. Guests usually get back by six in the evening.

What does the tour cost include?

A seat on the bus leaves from Cuzco and gets you back the same way. Morning meal comes included, nothing extra needed. Midday food arrives at just the right time. Help shows up whenever it's required through the whole trip.

What costs are not included in what you pay for the trip?

Horse rental sits outside the quoted cost, along with any snacks or beverages you pick up yourself. Gratuities fall under your responsibility, just like securing travel insurance. What’s listed isn’t bundled in - each stays separate.

How suitable is this trip for older adults or young people traveling?

Walking takes place on uneven ground up above sea level; anyone joining should feel confident handling this kind of effort.
