Day 1

Sacred Valley Tour Ollantaytambo

The day will commence with the hotel pick-up in Ollantaytambo or Urubamba at 8:00 A.M. There will be no traffic jams and the morning sun makes the Andes spectacular. We will be traveling on picture-esque roads, by rivers, small villages, and hills. Extensive agricultural land plots will demonstrate centuries of occupations of people and their labor.
Our initial point of visit is the Ollantaytambo Archaeological Site. The duration of the walk will be approximately 40 minutes, as we will be walking around Inca terraces, temples and stone streets.There will be tales of Inca life and ingenious engineering by our guide. We are going to take pictures, admire scenery and absorb the ancient atmosphere.
Then we shall proceed to 3,380 m above the sea level, the Maras Salt Mines. There are thousands of small salt pools that lay over the mountainside making cool geometric patterns.
Salt is also still harvested by local families in a traditional manner. We will observe the terraces, take some photos, and get to know how life was created in the valley by salt. The difference of white salt and brown earth is breathtaking.
Then we are going to visit Moray where it is 3,500 meters above sea level. The terraces are circular in displaying how the Incas tested farming in various micro climates.
We shall walk across the levels and have expansive views of the Sacred Valley. The advisory will describe the shrewd agricultural methods and variations in temperature. It is an excellent place to take some photos and simply to enjoy the past.
